White Lotus Ramen

Branding, Visual Identity

Problem

Working with a client that is dead set on specifics for the brand while making it successful?

I worked on this project with a culinary student Brandon Hill. His vision for the restaurant was a modern take on classical Japanese ramen and cuisine.

Upon the initial meeting I noticed that that he was apparent on a color palette that consisted of blue. Blue is not an appetizing color but I did what I could to create the overall brand a success.

Year: 2019

Role: Creation, Menu Design

01 Ideation

White Lotus Ramen is a modern take on classical Japanese ramen. For the meeting with the client I wanted to give three different directions we could go. The approach was something that is modern, yet, approachable.

02a Creation - The Logo

The Logo turned out to to be a simple word mark creating an easily recognized logo and brand. You know what your going to get when you walk into the restaurant. At first I created a lotus flower with a wordmark and presented the logo to him along with a few other options. After the initial presentation, we cane to the conclusion that we needed something more to represent this restaurant. By combining the two elements “the bowl” and “the lotus flower,” we created something that was identifiable, as well as reusable. Which comes in exceptionally well with branding.

02a Creation - Brand Guidelines

We were tasked with creating a menu design for the restaurant and  the needs for the client. My client was unsure on what he was looking for as regards to what things he might be looking for. So I created a brand guideline along with things he might be looking for in a restaurant type situation. For the type I wanted a modern feel so I went with a sans-serif type. For the colors I went with what he wanted which was the blue along with just a simple black and white color scheme to accent the blue tones.
